As of 11/1/04 we're in the new building. It's awesome. There's still detail work to be done,
but the good news is that we're here, we're out of the old space, there's gorgeous light in
the offices, the editing suites are huge, the theater is superb, the workshop space is super
functional, media services is in the perfect location. Am I gushing? Let me go on... There's
parking, there's a burger place opening down the block, we've got great neighbors and
there's a kick ass view of the Space Needle. Yeah!
THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO HELPED TO MAKE THIS POSSIBLE

We're entering the final stages of building out 911's new home. The drywall is all in place.
We're doing lights, plumbing, ethernet, security, and everyone's favorite task - tape, mud
and paint. This is all really exciting. We should be moving the gear over to the new 911
around October 9th. Until then, we're still up and running at our old space for workshops,
video editing, production gear and administrative stuff.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE 7.27.04
|
 | | | | |
| |
911's new space design is a direct result of feedback from artists and
members and informed by trends in the media arts field. Renovation is
moving at a rapid pace thanks to some great partners: Richard Manderbach
and Mark Bullis of Krekow Jennings Construction, Trammell Crowe Company
and architect Greg Bishop. The project has been guided by Greg's vision,
with the expertise of Richard Manderbach of Krekow Jennings, (builders
of the James Turrell's ethereal Skyspace, Light Reign, a permanent
exhibition of art and architecture housed at the Henry Art Gallery.)
Visitors will experience a facility whose design is more intentional,
with an intimate fixed seat theater, providing better sight lines and an
overall feeling of space. The new center will also house 911's dedicated
gallery featuring ongoing curated works of media art. The facility
includes flexible edit facilities to better accommodate workshop
participants and individual artists. It also features an artist in
residence suite designed to be a multifunctional space providing the
artist administrative and post production tools in a relaxing
environment conducive to creativity.
Phase I of the construction, which includes demolition is now complete.
By the time you read this, we will be well into phase II: framing the
walls and roughing in the electrical wiring. While our goal is to build
an appealing and functional space, we have mandated that any renovations
be completed with an eye to frugality. In order to save money, we have
designed a system by where licensed contractors do the work that is
required to pass building codes and volunteers handle the less technical
work. We are blessed to have such a hearty crew of folk who are willing
to give their time to help out, but we can always use more hands!
So, you ask when will the renovation be complete? Our targeted date to
move in is mid September. This depends on several factors, including the
city's seal of approval, also known as an occupancy permit. As always we
ask your patience while we make this transition and invite you to call
with questions, log on to the website for updates and join us for our
Summertime member events. With your help, we can do it!

CAPITAL CAMPAIGN UPDATE - 7.22.04
|
 | | | | |
| |
Our capital campaign for renovation is at a fever pitch as we raise
funds to match a generous challenge grant! We have a wonderful
individual donor who will match donations up to $15,000 dollar for
dollar. That means if we raise $15,000 this month, the gift will be
doubled! Now is the time to give what you can, large or small. This
challenge match represents only a portion of the funds needed to reach
our $175,000 August goal. To date, we have raised more than half of the
Phase I renovation capital funds.
There are several ways to give to this effort. Many professionals have
donated their expertise, volunteers have helped with construction or
administrative tasks, and businesses have contributed in-kind gifts to
support the volunteers. With these resources, we have been able to
significantly reduce renovation costs.
The staff and board are working hard to secure the capital necessary to
complete the renovation phase of this project. We have received funding
from The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, 4Culture, and each
and every member of the 911 Staff and Board of Trustees. Now it's your
turn. We need dollars to cover the expenses we must pay in cold hard
cash: items such as permits, labor costs, construction materials, dump
fees, electrical, plumbing, finishes, alarm systems, etc. Remember over
80% of non-profit giving is done by individuals.
Please take a moment to fill out the campaign donation form that is
probably sitting in your mailbox as we speak. Don't delay! Payment
options are available, or donate online via our secure donation link.

Skilled and unskilled labor needed! Are you handy with a shovel? Can you
lay down tile? Or can you sweep and paint for media art? We need help with
everything from packing, sweeping and painting to shoveling and laying down
tile.
Want to help, but don't have any spare time? How about lending us some
tools. If you could spare shovels, gloves, paint sprayers, goggles, etc.
please let us know. We could use all the help that we can get.
In return for your hard work and for letting us borrow your tools, we will
offer you discounts on equipment rentals and edit suites, free screenings,
gift certificates, grab bags, free meals on the days you work, beverages (of
all kinds) a-plenty, and our undying love and gratitude. Let's not forget
the big blow out party once we finish the move! Have we already mentioned
our undying love and gratitude?
Be a part of our ground opening! We need volunteer to help dig trenches in
our new building. If you are free anytime Thursday, June 3 through Sunday,
June 6 and are willing to help us dig in our new digs, please give us a
call.
If you are interested in helping us out in any capacity, please contact Sung
Kim with your name, E-mail address and phone number:

911 has launched its Capital Campaign for our move
this summer to a new location at 9th & Harrison next
to Cinema Seattle. We must move to lower our overhead
expenses and it is providing us
with an opportunity to build out the new space to
better fit our needs - including our first true
theater space with fixed seating.
We have a limited number of theater seats still
available for naming and would like to offer you, our
members and friends, the chance to name a chair if you
are interested. The cost is $250 and all donations go
toward our capital campaign. For more information,
contact Board Trustee Heather Renee Ayres at
206.200.0933 or heatherfilm@yahoo.com.

Here are the plans. Looks cool eh? The new space will be at the corner
of 9th and Harrison in the dynamic South Lake Union neighborhood.
