911 Media Arts Center is pleased to present the 59 SECONDS INTERNATIONAL
FILM/VIDEO FESTIVAL
FRIDAY, DECEMBER 2, 8PM (one night only!)
$7 (GENERAL ADMISSION) / $5 (911 MEMBERS)
Join us on Friday, December 2, at 8pm, for the Seattle premiere of the 59 Seconds International Film/Video Festival! Festival Co-Founders Irina Danilova and Hiram Levy will be at 911 to introduce the screening, and will present selections from the first two festival screenings.
Launched this spring in Tribeca, New York City, the 59 Seconds Festival presents a wide ranging collection of films, videos and animations by artists from around the world, restricted to the 0:59 running length and encouraged to embrace the number 59. The Festival was founded in order to interact while sampling and analyzing an emerging contemporary international video art scene.
The 59 Seconds Festival is part of Project 59, a ten-year effort led by Irina Danilova, where the number 59 is both a guide and a tool that injects randomization into the creative process, helping to break free of subjective and cultural constraints. The initial idea of the 59 Seconds Festival was a metaphor for the short video art format. "It doesn’t hurt the viewer to waste 59 seconds,” says Irina Danilova, “but it also gives the artist enough time to create something great."
Founders of the 59 Seconds Festival plan to use feedback from both East and West coast audiences to help select the best sequence of 59 films, 59 seconds each.
Participating filmmakers include:
