Magnum Photographer and Professor of Photojournalism at University of Texas, Austin, Eli Reed will be showing several documentary films at 911 on Wednesday May 24 in partnership with The Photographic Center Northwest.

"Getting Out"
10 mins, 1992. Up close film about gangs in Detroit.
"Children's March"
Film is about 40 mins. Date unknown. Film about the children's march in Alabama during the civil rights struggle and its impact on bringing down segregation in Alabama.
"Pink Palace"
23 mins. Eli's photographs of war and life in El-Salvador in 1980's set to the music of Pink Floyd's Atom Heart Mother.
"Crash & Burn"
6 min. This film is a stream of photographs by multiple photographers covering the war in El-Salvador and set to the song "Crash & Burn". Eli received this film from an NBC correspondent, Joe Cantu who was covering the war while Eli was also there.
Mr. Reed will be visiting Seattle to present a workshop at Photographic Center Northwest on Saturday & Sunday, May 27 & 28, 10:00 A.M.-5:00 P.M.

Eli Reed is currently a Clinical Professor of Photojournalism at the University of Texas , has been with the elite legendary photographic agency, Magnum Photos since 1983. A Nieman Fellow at Harvard University , he has worked on assignment for national and international publications covering world news events since 1982. Among his many awards are (1993) Visa pour L'image Festival Du Photoreportage (Perpignan, France), (1992) W. Eugene Smith Grant in Documentary Photography, (1992) Kodak World Image Award for Fine Art Photography, (1988) Leica Medal of Excellence and POY, World Press Photo, and Overseas Press Club prizes. Books produced include, " Beirut , City of Regrets," and "Black in America ," with photographs, text and poetry written by Reed and published by W. W. Norton Publishing. His work has been exhibited in key museums and galleries; he has lectured and taught extensively at important venues worldwide and judged major international photo competitions. Portfolios of Reed's work are in the collections of the "George Eastman House International Museum of Photography and Film" in Rochester , NY and the " Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture" in New York , NY . Reed is a member of the photographic groups Kamoinge and the Society of Motion Picture Still Photographers (SMPSP). He has photographed over 25 feature, documentary and cable network films. He is currently working on numerous long term book projects and directing a documentary short film and in production directing a major nonfiction feature film.
