AMERICAN MULLET
Friday, August 1st 8pm
$6 / $4 (911 members)
What is a Mullet? Simply, it's a haircut - short in the front, long in the back. The cut is definitely not fashionable, yet it is always worn with pride. Recently, there has been a multitude of mullet media. The Beastie Boys published "Making Sense of the Mullet" in Grand Royal Magazine. "Mullet Watch" is a popular web site. There's even a book out, "Mullet - Hairstyle of the Gods." Plenty of people are making fun of mulletheads but who's talking to them? "The Mullet Chronicles" premiered at the Sundance Online Film Festival and is now a feature length documentary titled "American Mullet." Join Mathew Bose as he travels the country in search of Jocks (hockey hair), Bikers (the mud flap), Machismo Men (MexiMullet), Lesbians (The official Lesbian Haircut), Native Americans (Traditional Mullet), and Country Music Fans (The Billy Ray Cyrus). For more information about the most important haircut documentary ever made visit www.americanmullet.com.

NET LOSS
with Melissa Young, Mark Dworkin
Friday, August 15th 8pm
$6 / $4 (911 members)
All over the world, fish are at the heart of people's diet and culture. And in the Pacific Northwest, there's no fish like the legendary salmon. Now there's a new way to produce fish - where salmon are raised in giant underwater cages. At first these salmon farms seem like a good idea - more fish for people to eat and less pressure on wild fish. But the farms themselves have become a new threat to the survival of wild salmon. "Net Loss" provides local and global perspectives on this new industrial approach to producing salmon. There are ecological effects from concentrated wastes and antibiotic use. Millions of farmed fish have escaped to compete for food with other species and may be interfering with the breeding of wild fish runs. Cheap farmed salmon have already undercut the livelihoods of Native American and coastal communities worldwide.

BRUCE BAILLIE
Friday, August 22nd 8pm
$5 / $3 (911 members)
The Pacific Northwest is blessed with hidden treasures like media artist Bruce Bailey. One of the seminal artists to emerge from the experimental film movement of the 60's, Bruce not only wrote the book on alternative media art, he started an entire school dedicated to the craft in Berkley. Bailey's work is widely celebrated in the film world today. His incredible moving abstracts are nestled next to the Will Rogers memoirs at the Library of Congress. In 2001 he created an introductory film for the Cannes Film Festival. 911 is very fortunate to be able to present his 16mm films and possibly host a speaking engagement with the legend himself. Bruce lives on Camano Island and has pledged to make every effort to visit with us, however, due to his medical condition he may not be able to appear in person. Either way, please join us for a rare opportunity to glimpse the works of a Northwest legend.
