AFGHAN STORIES
Afghan Stories
by Taran Davies
Friday, July 18th 8pm
$6 / $4 (911 members)
In the weeks following September 11th Taran Davies quit his job as an investment banker,
grabbed his video camera and left for Afghanistan. After arriving in Tajikistan via a Northern
Alliance cargo jet, he documented the battered lives of Afghan natives and refugees during the
American bombing campaign. Later, with help from a representative of the United Nations World
Food Program, he captured the efforts of aid workers. "Afghan Stories" is remarkable for its
non-professional, non-sensational approach to the Afghan conflict. The work has the intimacy
of a home movie as it shows the real life struggles of everyday Afghans.

VOICE OF THE PROPHET
by Robert Edwards
A truly chilling example of foreshadowing, "Voice of the Prophet" is an interview with Rick
Rescorla, the head of security for the investment firm Morgan Stanley Dean Witter. Filmed on
the 44th floor of the World Trade Center in 1998, Rescorla details the future of warfare long
before Osama bin Laden became America's Most Wanted. In this interview, Rescorla all but
predicts the events that lead up to the September 11 attack and the war on terrorism that
followed.
