FED UP!
Saturday, July 12th 8pm
$6 / $4 (911 members)
About 70% of the food we eat contains genetically modified ingredients and is not labeled. The biotechnology industry is spending $50 million a year to convince us that this technology is our only hope for feeding the world and saving the environment. Family farmers are disappearing at an astonishing rate as people continue to go hungry both here and abroad. Toxic agricultural chemicals continue to poison our air, food and water and put farm workers in serious danger. "Fed Up" presents an entertaining, informative and compelling overview of our current food production system from the Green Revolution to the Biotech Revolution and what we can do about it.

OPEN SCREENING
Hosted by Greg D'Elia
Monday, July 14th, 8pm $1 (Cheap!)

Open Screening has a big announcement - we will now accept submissions on DVD! Our DVD player also plays VCD format, however it's probably smart to bring a backup VHS just incase the digits bonk! OS has been bigger and better than ever lately, we've had record crowds during the Spring season. Here's how it works: DVD and VHS only, no longer than 10 minutes please, we will accept submissions until we get about an hour of content and then show everything on the big screen. Bring your stuff, tell your friends, OS is a tradition that'll never end!

AFGHAN STORIES
Afghan Stories
by Taran Davies
Friday, July 18th 8pm
$6 / $4 (911 members)
In the weeks following September 11th Taran Davies quit his job as an investment banker, grabbed his video camera and left for Afghanistan. After arriving in Tajikistan via a Northern Alliance cargo jet, he documented the battered lives of Afghan natives and refugees during the American bombing campaign. Later, with help from a representative of the United Nations World Food Program, he captured the efforts of aid workers. "Afghan Stories" is remarkable for its non-professional, non-sensational approach to the Afghan conflict. The work has the intimacy of a home movie as it shows the real life struggles of everyday Afghans.

VOICE OF THE PROPHET
by Robert Edwards
A truly chilling example of foreshadowing, "Voice of the Prophet" is an interview with Rick Rescorla, the head of security for the investment firm Morgan Stanley Dean Witter. Filmed on the 44th floor of the World Trade Center in 1998, Rescorla details the future of warfare long before Osama bin Laden became America's Most Wanted. In this interview, Rescorla all but predicts the events that lead up to the September 11 attack and the war on terrorism that followed.
