SEX, SALMON, SECRECY
Friday, May 16th 8pm
$5 / $3 (911 members)
Sex, Salmon, Secrecy tells of government secrecy, gender-switching salmon, and an independent
scientist's quest to uncover the truth about the Hanford nuclear facility in Washington State.
This dramatic documentary follows an exploding controversy of sex, salmon, and secrecy -
keeping pace over two years with the opposing sides.
While creating Sex, Salmon, Secrecy, Moon Callison enlisted the help of an extensive advisory
board including independent scientists and the Department of Energy (owner and operator of the
Hanford nuclear weapons site). After an independent scientist working with Mrs Callison
announced the discovery of radioactive waste in Salmon spawning beds of the Hanford Reach, the
Department of Energy was "no longer inclined to participate" in the documentary. Other
government agencies then blacklisted the project. Moon Callison began production of Sex,
Salmon, Secrecy in January 2001, with fiscal sponsorship from 911 Media Arts Center.
