BUSH IN 30 SECONDS
Wednesday, June 9th 7:30pm
$5 donation requested
Proceeds go to the Moveon.org voter fund and 911 Media Arts Center

In late 2003, Moveon.org, the pre-eminent online advocacy group in the United States, held a nationwide contest asking Americans to submit a 30 second ad challenging President Bush's policies and his administration. Moveon.org membership judged over 1000 ads, and the winner, "Child's Pay", was scheduled to air during the SuperBowl until it was censored by CBS. Now the "Bush in 30 seconds" team has compiled a DVD of the Top 50 ads submitted to the contest. Among the Top 50 ads is "Mission Accomplished?" produced by local Seattle filmmaker Celia Beasley with the help of local cast and crew. Join us in the screening of the best anti-Bush political ads of the year, including best animated ads and funniest ads. A dessert reception and informal discussion will follow the screening.

911 Media Arts Center celebrates the completion of nine short documentaries by student producers featured in the 4th installment of NEW VOICES. Sponsored in part by the National Endowment for the Arts and KCTS, The Public Network, this unique program offers emerging filmmakers the chance to prepare short-form original work for PBS broadcast, all the while receiving mentorship and critical feedback by leading local and national film professionals.

This screening party caps months of production work and sweaty critique sessions. At every step of the way, these students were held to the fire to find compelling subjects and tell strong stories. Were the results worth it? Come see for yourself. Showcased filmmakers and their projects include:

Patricia Boiko: "Game Show Duo"
A quiz show couple supports their family over 30 years on the game show circuit.

Molly Norris Curtis: "Lovelace Watkins"

QUEER AS KOOK
Friday, June 25, 8pm
$6 / $4 (911 members)
(This show will be at 911's classic Yale st Theater 117 Yale Ave N.)
That crazy quilt of polyester pan-sexuality known as KOOKtv proudly kicks off Gay Pride weekend with Queer as Kook. Producers Sulo Turner and Mike Stegmann delight and defy with a quirky retrospective of Kook's queerest moments from their decidedly gay TV oeuvre (1993-2004). Over 25 talents are on hand in this tacky tour of dyke-a-licious drama, torrid tranny tales, and fag-tastic fluff that will alternately tickle, trouble and tease you. Some samplings of the evening's fun...

Lavender Sunsets
A scathingly prescient look at reality TV and its effects on a less-than-perfect gay couple.

Sister Tabloid
At the Abbey of St. Joan, it's Mother Superior versus a young novice, and the prize is sexy singer Layla.

Tommy has two Mommies
A teenage gayboy is being raised by lesbian life partners. Cultures clash, but love comes in all shapes and sizes!

The Stranger Within
Young Roy takes steps toward becoming Betsy against the better wishes of the family. Moody and psychological.

Blind Date
A lesbian couple and a straight couple have met through the personals. Have they really come to swing?
