Doug Ing has been a 911 member for years. It is always refreshing to run into him, even after he's been up all night editing. He has the ability to translate his honest, lively countenance onto the screen. This quality is particularly important in his work as he explores subjects closest to his heart.
Castle
A charming, animated piece combining drawing and xeroxing techniques with a jazz piano soundtrack to create a playful rush of images and emotions that conjure up Doug's dream home.
Leslie
Doug turns the camera on his family as they deal with his sister's struggle with the disease Lupus. Leslie works as both a primer about an illness that affects many Americans and as a loving tribute to a lost daughter and sister.
Doug is the One
You're a determined filmmaker but lack big financing, the body of a Greek god and, most importantly, that special someone. You feel mounting pressure brought on by Mom, advancing age and the knowledge that Chinese men far outnumber Chinese women. What do you do? Turn it into your latest work, of course! With self-deprecating humor and more than a little charm, Seattle filmmaker, Doug Ing, takes his search for a girlfriend to the big screen. And ladies, you may want to have pen and paper ready to jot down that phone number at the end.
Masked Man
This 16mm film captures the shadowy world that lies behind the many facades that make up our everyday existence. People wear masks for many reasons. For some, the guise allows them to hide behind a veneer of wealth and status. Some use false fronts to block out the ugly truths of reality. Doug seeks to expose the affected masquerade that is life in this dark contemplative art film.
General Dental
Take the cast of General Hospital, strap them into a dentist's chair, crank up the nitrous oxide and you have General Dental. This humorous spoof is Doug's acting debut. It features a zany cast extracted from the University of Washington.
Mystery Work This is a work in progress to be revealed on the night of the event.

Not This Part of the World by Philip Atlakson Friday, May 23rd, 8pm $4 / $3 (911 members)

A series of interconnected vignettes trace a day in the life of a group of former high school classmates whose only connection is a fellow graduate recently murdered in a California drive-by shooting. The tragedy unites a town already lamenting the "Californification" of their Idaho community. Ironically, few of the townspeople even remember her.
Shot on a tiny budget in Boise, Idaho, the work treads a delicate line between narrative and art film, uniting the choice elements of both. Not This Part of the World has a David Lynch-y feel and features the acting talents of Adam West. It is complimented by an ultra-cool soundtrack including KMFDM and Built to Spill. While the rest of Seattle flocks to the big, big Film Fest take the opportunity to see a work that exemplifies the best of the independent spirit.
