The Seattle Poetry Festival
Saturday and Sunday May 1st and 2nd 2-5pm

911 is pleased to host an incredible two days of poetry, performance and projected film and video presented by Eleventh Hour Productions. 1999 Seattle Poetry Festival is a massive undertaking with events all over town! The shows at 911 will emphasize poetic media art.

Saturday
The show will lead off with short films of the late Steven Jesse Bernstein including ÒPink EnoughÓ and ÒSteven Jesse Bernstein May 1990.Ó Blackchair Productions will present Poetic Video from the Independent Exposure series. Steven Ruhl will read poems arranged for video by renowned folk musician Kathleen Yearwood. Dorothy Allison will read from Ò2 or 3 Things but Nothing for Sure.Ó Pamela Moore Dionne, Chuck Smart and Joan Laage will present a poetry, percussion and dance ensemble. Arthur Tulee and Joan Fiset will present live multi-media content.

Sunday
A 60 minute film featuring the poetry of Adrienne Rich titled ÒListening for SomethingÓ will be shown. Joyce Yarrow and the Breaking Ground Dance Company will perform. The Northwest Asian American Theater will present short works. Readings will be performed by featured writers from the Jack Straw Writers Program. Additional selections of poetic video will be screened.

Please join 911 and Dyke Community Activists as we present a witty documentary celebrating the contributions of contemporary African American comediennes. The work profiles comic greats such as: Marsha Warfield, Alice Arthur, Rhonda Hansome, June Galvin-Lewis and the cultural contributions entertainers of an earlier era - 'Moms' Mabley, Pearl Bailey, and Ethel Waters. Tonight's event will be a benefit to support Mothers for Police Accountability, a group which seeks to remedy police targeting of people of color and youth. Dyke Community Activists have been doing political work in Seattle for over ten years. Contact them at 206-325-4061.

What happens when a Seattle film crew begins production on feature about a former porno star who thinks sheÕs the Messiah? The result is a very clever and funny film that toggles between a behind-the-scenes documentary and a polished Hollywood feature. Think of it as ÒSpinal TapÓ meets ÒThe GodfatherÓ only the part of Don Corleone is played by Almost LiveÕs John Keister The driving force behind the film is Taso Lagos, a Northwest moviemaking powerhouse who created the work on a $50,000 budget and a whirlwind four day shooting schedule. Come and enjoy an excellent product of our local film community!
