This workshop provides hands-on training in the basic techniques of field audio
recording. Students will shoot interviews as well as hand held documentary style
footage both indoors and out, gaining experience with the most commonly used
field audio equipment. Beyond exploring the audio features of 911's DVX100 in
detail, you will learn how and when to use a lavalier, shotgun and wireless
microphone in order to obtain optimal audio for your video project. Also covered
will be basic instruction in the use of a field mixer and boom operation.
ClassLimit: 8
As a camera operator with no audio experience, Todd's class gave me valuable information
that will help me work in tandem with the sound department on future productions. I almost feel
like I could pick up a boom mic and a mixer and work on sound myself!
-Vanessa Eng (Camera Operator)
Todd Hanna is an excellent instructor who condensed a lot of technical information into a practical,
sensible format for the Basic Field Audio class. The class left feeling like all the basics had been
throughly covered and we were ready to assist with a field audio project. I couldn't have asked for a
better teacher.
