Everyone is a Photographer: Performance of the Image

  • March 3, 17, 24 6-9pm
    instructor - Ariana Page Russell
    member cost - $ 195
    non member cost - $ 225

Everyone is a Photographer: Performance of the Image explores, through still photography, the concept of performance for the camera's eye only. You will create an important action, drawing viewers' attention to activities, spaces, gestures, settings, or situations that may go unnoticed or otherwise would not occur. This performance of your choice survives only through photographs. We will cover artists who use the camera as a means of documenting performance and techniques for documentation. Either an after effect of the performance - a trace or alteration of space - or the performance itself is shown. This documentation becomes a relic, the stage for action, and a means of spreading your intention. Students will bring 5-10 prints documenting performances, and/or the after effects, for the final meeting where we will critique the performance and documentation. You must own a camera (35 mm or digital) or 911 have a few they can loan. Additional class expenses include -30 estimated for prints. Class limit 15
