Youth Programs Flourish @ 911
The area of youth education continues to grow and expand at 911.
This past Fall launched "Gen 7" a new collaboration between Red Llama and 911 Media Arts Center. The members of the Gen 7 Council recognized a significant need for Native American youth to acquire media literacy skills as well as multimedia, hardware and software computer skills. In the age of My Space and You Tube These skills are critical for cultural and communicative empowerment. Students were given access to software that enabled them to create augmented 3 dimensional environments. The students built 3d models to illustrate stories told to them regarding the history of their people and the Seattle landscape.
Another exciting collaboration that took place with "Teens Media Network and Take it Seriously:Sex and Media." 911 created a team of young designer to produce a PSA to educate teenagers regarding important sexual issues. The PSA will be included in teen presentations to middle school students in Washington State public schools. This is an exciting project for 911, as students get hands on training for experience to the adult design world. Its been a privilege to witness the sincerity of the team of students and their commitment this project.
